Are you are tired of sitting around the house because things are so expensive? Well let’s take a look around and see what Oklahoma has to offer this weekend that is family friendly AND budget friendly… This week-end you can go right down route 66 and enjoy a tasty Onion Burger at El Reno’s Onion Burger Days. Check out the Activities on their website. http://www.elrenoburgerday.com
If you don’t mind getting dirty you can dig for Selenite Crystals at the Salt Plains State Park in Nash. The Salt Plains are the only place on earth you can find Hour Glass Crystals. Awesome fun for the family!! For information on the Salt Plains and crystal digging check out their website at http://www.fws.gov/southwest/refuges/oklahoma/saltplains
Another great trip is to head down to Sulphur and checkout the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. Be ready to get wet and play in the waterfalls. Have a great time and the best part is the admission is FREE… Gas not included. Smiles and laughter guaranteed!! http://www.nps.gov/chic/index.htm
Drive out to American Horse Lake outside Geary and enjoy the beauty. Here is a hint…Go close at dusk and take some peanuts. Sprinkle them on the ground and get in the car. Then watch the smiles on your kids faces as the raccoons come out to feed on them. But don’t let your kids try to pet them…It isn’t THAT safe!!
Feel free to share your suggestions for a budget friendly getaway.
